For those experienced business analysts who haven't had any formal business analysis training but want to make a career change towards business analysis, there are quite a few courses that are available to be taken. These courses are based on the ISEB Exam contents. The ISEB is the exam that is held on certain business subject areas and is descriptive in nature. One has to undergo training from a training provider who provides training on courses that cover the questions that will appear in the ISEB. The subjects that are covered as part of the training will help the individual to apply these concepts in their day-to-day function.
A business analysis course provided by a training provider should ideally include a requirements management module, which is a one of the subjects in the ISEB Qualifying Examination. In addition to the requirements management, they should also include topics related to integration with projection team management, interacting with business users to get the correct business requirements, identifying the scope of the project, breaking down the business scenarios into data models and process models, creating use cases to validate the requirements, creating the required business solutions and provide the solution to the business users and get their feedback.
The course should also include case study as part of the training program. Case studies are very important. Cases studies should cover the various issues the business analyst will encounter in their work. This includes the scenarios related to the requirement changes being done by the business users, the processes related to the system integration, various areas related to scope management and requirement management and areas related to project team management.
At the end of the case study, the participants should be allowed to make a presentation related to the case study. In this manner they will be able to gain confidence in presenting their views regarding a particular business situation to a larger business user group. These courses are usually conducted for a period of a week as a full day program. After attending this program, the participants will be able to take the ISEB examination, which is usually a 1 hour 15 minutes descriptive type examination. The participant will be given a particular business scenario and then create a solution for that scenario. The time given for providing the solution is usually 1 hour, while 15 minutes is given for reading the scenario and thinking about a possible solution.
