Small business owners are seeing their world change. Ten or Fifteen years ago, a small business maybe had one computer. Then the computers became more useful, and less expensive, the average office went from one computer to maybe 4 or 5. Then the networks came, linking the machines together and sharing data. Now, the next changes are coming and are already here. Much of our lives and data are being stored on the cloud. So, that means we don’t really need those large hard drives and servers hiding in the basement. This is great for most of us, as we don’t need the cost of maintaining all of that hardware. Servers have become cheap!
Data is now stored on the cloud. Now, most small business owners move a little slow. So, we are not all there. The cloud is where out data is being stored now and in the future. It allows versatility, you can move offices easily, if you lost your data you could just upload. It allows you to work from home, or anywhere. I own a medical practice and I can check my schedule for the day at home, or see how many patients came in during the day when I am on vacation. It is a great way. Not everything is on the cloud, but many things are. More and more data will be stored that way, but we still need to catch up.
While the cloud will continue to grow, the next wave of computing, data and technology is already here. The way things are moving is mobile. The desktop computers in your office and laptops are becoming more obsolete as time goes on. Of course wee still need them, I am typing this article on my laptop right now. But, the portability of tablets, ipads, iphones, and more is very attractive.
So, the real future is mobile and mobile cloud. Data will be stored online in cloud servers and accessible via mobile devices. The need for large servers, and desktop computers will be obsolete. So, what does this mean. Well, a lot of change is happening, and it will slowly transition. Data used to be stored in our office in a server, now we are moving it online to a remote server. We can access that via remote desktop, online login, all sorts of methods. Much of that data though is not available mobile, and if it is, it is not mobile friendly! This is the next integration for business owners and really everyone. Our data will be stored online and accessible via mobile devices, we are getting there, but the business tools are not there yet.
Being forward thinking guy, I found it frustrating that I didn’t have access to my clinic data on my phone. I have other doctors working for me, and other staff, I need to know what is going on now. As I write this I am home on my laptop, but my clinic is open. I need to know what is going on! So, I couldn’t find what I needed so I had it developed. I invented iBiz Stats, the world’s only iphone and ipad app that allows you or your staff enter in daily statistics, like collections, clients, patients, anything you want. The staff enters the data on their iphone, or the office ipad, or ipod touch, and you can see it instantly on your iphone anywhere in the world. Data is all stored on secure server, so if you lose your phone, ipad, anything, no worries we have it! It’s a unique business building tool I would recommend for anyone. I hope you use it to grow your business!
