A photo-a-day for a Hobbling A Day. Weekly Theme for Week of December 12: After.

After computer servers have served their purpose, they are discarded onto the junk heap.
After the junk heap gets full and they need more space IT calls these guys, a high tech disposal company.
After they video tape each disk drive, paying special attention the serial number and bar-code, the disks are dumped into the heavy duty shredder in the truck and ground to little pieces.
After disks have been disposed of the servers will be inventoried and taped, showing that there is nothing in them that there is nothing in them that can contain any data.
After the servers are loaded onto the truck, they will be taken back the disposal company's site and dismantled for spare parts. The rest will be recycled.
After the truck had left, the IT department will file their paperwork, including the tapes, with the federal government, proving that they have disposed of the equipment and data in a manner that meet the NERC CIP Safety requirements.
After all that, the IT people will, once again, tend to the current server farm.

I'm a little sad that it took me more than three months to post this photo. I had a nice little idea for this image, but alas, it's been far too long.

Anyways, I am still taking photos, and will be making posts more often from now on. Hopefully.
